TLM upgrades the back office technology at 80 Mace stores

The customer

Costcutter Supermarkets Group is a convenience symbol business with members running over 2,600 stores throughout the UK. Founded in 1986, Costcutter Supermarkets Group directly employ over 600 people nationwide with offices in York and Belfast. The challenge

Following the agreement that Costcutter Supermarkets Group would take over management of the former P&H symbol group Mace, the business needed to change the ordering system that the Mace stores were using to bring it in line with their own. This meant that they needed to upgrade the back office system software and hardware in over 80 Mace stores.

The stores were using the Oracle Convenience & Fuel back office solution formerly known as Prism. They needed to be upgraded to Prism 2 to be able to access Costcutter Supermarkets Group’s order system. There was a very tight timeframe in which to complete the upgrades and move each store to the new ordering system in order to avoid any disruption to the retailers – the whole project had to be delivered in a matter of weeks.

David Morris, Director of IT at Costcutter Supermarkets Group said, ‘we needed to roll out this upgrade of both hardware and software as quickly as possible so that our retailers could join the new ordering system; being able to complete orders is crucial to the smooth running of their businesses so the upgrade of these stores was extremely critical.’

The project

Costcutter Supermarkets Group enlisted technology specialists TLM to upgrade the back office software and hardware at the 80 Mace stores. Their team of engineers and UK-based support specialists worked in cooperation with Oracle to obtain the new software licences, then they installed the new software onto new back office machines, then delivered and installed those machines at each of the stores within the necessary timescales to meet Costcutter Supermarkets Group’s deadline.

There was no doubt about that – the upgrade project was completed on time and the 80 stores were up and running with their new Costcutter Supermarkets Group ordering system without issue. ‘We were extremely impressed with the attitudes of everyone we dealt with on the TLM team’, David said; ‘the engineers and service team were responsive, flexible and professional, and most importantly for us the speed of delivery was remarkably efficient.’
